Trevor and I made our first father and son trip to Big Bend NP in March 1990 when he was 10. It was the first of what became an annual tradition for the next 14 years.

We took a horseback ride up here and as we learned not really the best way to go, 8 hours on a horse with only one stop at the top to get off. The trail was dusty and the long line of horses meant we all were enveloped in a smelly, dusty cloud the whole day. Not exactly what I envisioned as the best way to savor the sights and sounds of the majestic Chisos.  We were never so relieved to get off the horses. I was walking bowlegged for a day after this because of saddle sores.
